Convocation FAQ
The following list should answer most of your questions about Freshman Convocation at Georgia Tech.
Q: Should parents and family members attend Convocation?
A: Yes! Parents and family members are invited and encouraged to attend this important ceremony.
Q: Do family members and guests need tickets or invitations to attend Convocation?
A: Tickets are not required to attend the Convocation ceremony. However, tickets are required for the Reception for parents and family members which occurs before the Convocation ceremony. For details about this reception, and to purchase tickets for this reception, please click on the link for "Parent Reception" on the left hand menu.
Q: What time do the facility doors open?
A: Doors open 60 minutes prior to the beginning of the ceremony.
Q: How long does the ceremony usually last?
A: Convocation usually ends around 6:00 p.m.
Q: When and where do I pick up my RAT Cap?
A: All freshmen will receive their RAT Cap at Convocation.
Q: Will the Convocation ceremony be Web cast?
A: No.
Q: Can I get additional copies of the Convocation program?
A: A limited number of programs are available after the ceremony. Please contact the Office of Success Programs at 404-894-1945 to make a request for additional copies.
Q: Where should parents and guests park? Is handicap parking available?
A: Please visit the "Ceremony Logistics" page for details and maps on parking.
Q: Is handicap seating available for my family members or guests with special needs?
A: Seating for family members and guests with special needs will be available in handicapped seating sections (as posted in the facility). No prior arrangements need to be made to secure seating in these areas.
Q: Will wheelchairs be provided at the Convocation facility?
A: No, family members and guests should plan to bring their own wheelchairs.
Q: Is there a reception following the ceremony?
A:Students will return to campus by shuttle to attend the 17th Annual Caribbean Party for dinner and fun to celebrate their first night as official college students! (Note: This is a free event for students.)
Q: What hotel accommodations are available in the Georgia Tech area?
A: A list of hotels offering special rates to families and guests of freshmen is located on the FASET Orientation web site.
