Ceremony Logistics

Who is Invited
All incoming freshmen are invited. Parents and family members are also invited and strongly encouraged to attend and celebrate their student's entry into Georgia Tech. A special reception for parents, family members, and guests will be held immediately before the Convocation ceremony.

 

Date
The 2009 Freshman Convocation will be held on Sunday, August 16, 2009.

 

Time
The ceremony will begin promptly at 5:00 p.m. and will end at 6:30 p.m.

 

Parent Reception
While your freshmen are getting ready for Convocation, a special reception for parents and guests of the Freshman Class will be held prior to Freshman Convocation from 2:30pm - 4:00pm.  More details are available by clicking here.

 

Location, Directions, and Convocation Parking
Alexander Memorial Coliseum is located at the corner of Fowler Street and 10th Street on Georgia Tech's Campus and can be found on our campus map marked as building 73. Free parking is available adjacent to the coliseum in the Coliseum and O'Keefe lots. These lots are marked as E65 and E62 on the Georgia Tech Parking Map. For directions to campus please click here

Parents and family members who are attending the Parent Reception which occurs prior to Convocation- please see the Parent Reception webpage for instructions on parking at the reception and then getting over to the Convocation ceremony.

Freshmen will be coming to Convocation together with their Peer Leaders (PLs) and should check with the PLs for details on when and where they will meet to go over to the ceremony.

Student Transportation
Shuttles will be available to take students from their residence halls to Alexander Memorial Coliseum.  Students may also walk to the Coliseum.  In general, students will meet with their Freshman Experience (FE) peer leader and will travel as a group. However, students who are not in the Freshman Experience may also take the chartered shuttles. Please contact the Office of Success Programs at 404-894-1945 for locations where the shuttles will be picking up students.

 

Immediately Following Convocation
Students will attend a special party sponsored by Auxiliary Services- the 17th Annual Caribbean Party- which celebrates their first night as an official college student. It will be held in the Student Center, and students may take a shuttle or walk over there after the Convocation ceremony. This is a free event for students.
