About Convocation

Initiated in 1994 and open to all incoming students and their parents and family members, Freshman Convocation is a ceremony to officially welcome the Freshman Class to Georgia Tech. There four overarching purposes for this event:

1.      To inspire students

2.      To welcome students to the Georgia Tech community

3.      To acquaint students with Tech's mission and traditions

4.      To serve as a rite of passage for entering students

Just as Commencement is a ceremony that marks the completion of study, Convocation celebrates a student's entry into higher education. It is also the first formal events where the Institute's President will address new students and their families and welcome them to Tech's academic community.
