Freshmen Seminar

GT 1000, Adjustment to College Life, the Freshmen Seminar, is a one-hour/one-credit graded course taught in small groups or teams (5-6 students) in classes of 25 to 30 students. The course is taught by academic faculty and administrative personnel from various co-curricular units, all of who possess advanced degrees and experience in working with college students and their transition issues. Upper-class students serve as team leaders for 4 or 5 small groups in each class. Team leaders volunteer to help from their interest in supporting first semester students through the transition to college. The course assists newly enrolled Tech students in understanding and preparing for the difference, both academically and socially, between high school and college. Students in the course participate in a variety of in-class and outside class experiences to inform and expose them to campus resources that aid them in the high school to college transition. The course promotes both academic and co-curriculum leadership opportunities available to students in their first year and beyond.
